Daniel Boone had several daughters; however, the most well-known was Jemima Boone. She was born on October 4, 1762, in Yadkin River Valley, North Carolina. Jemima was the fourth of six children born to Daniel and his wife, Rebecca Bryan.
Jemima was known for her bravery and resourcefulness. She was captured by Shawnee Indians at the age of 14 and held captive for several months until she was rescued by her father and a group of men. It is said that during her captivity, Jemima helped care for a fellow captive who was sick and helped her escape, despite the risk of endangering her own life.
In 1779, Jemima married Flanders Callaway, a friend of her father's. The couple had 10 children together and lived in Kentucky. Jemima continued to exhibit her strong-willed personality, often assisting in her husband's business and managing their large farm.
Jemima Boone passed away on March 17, 1834, at the age of 71. She was buried in Marthasville, Missouri, near her children and grandchildren.
